The South African Veterinary Foundation is a non profit organisation founded in 1984. Its aim is to raise money and promote animal education through research and public awareness.
The Foundation aims at advancing and promoting all aspects of Biological Sciences and Veterinary Sciences within South Africa. To achieve this, the Foundation aims to fund veterinary study through loans and bursaries and administer and invest financial portfolios in order to improve both human and animal quality of life. SAVF has a number of initiatives that allow organisations and the public to contribute towards the welfare of animals.
The South African Veterinary Foundation has funded 40 students, totaling R250 000, since 1999.
The SAVF bursary, which is awarded annually, is funded by Lakato Veterinary Wholesalers and the SAVF Pet Memorial Fund, as well as a private donor.

Students are invited to apply for the South African Veterinary Foundation’s bursary program, , in partnership with Lakato Veterinary Wholesalers for the 2025 academic calendar year.
The University of Pretoria will award bursaries for the study of BVSc qualification (Veterinary Science).
More about the SAVF BURSARY Programme – Value
Four students will receive the SAVF bursary, worth R10000 each. Two bursaries are awarded to students in the 4th and 5th years, while two bursaries are awarded to students in the 5th year.
After completing your studies, you will not be required to sign a service contract or perform any work-back obligations.
Eligibility Requirements for the SAVF Bursary
Before applying, applicants must meet the minimum requirements (please be aware that if you do not meet all of the requirements your application will not be considered).
- You must be enrolled in a BVSc (Veterinary Science) degree at the Faculty of Veterinary Science
- You must be a student at the University of Pretoria
- You must be in your fourth or fifth year of studies
- You must need financial assistance
- You must have a minimum of 60% average in your exams
- Students must actively participate in activities such as sports, cultural events, and other aspects of student life.
