About the WEINERT Bursary Programme – Fields Covered
WEINERT Industries South Africa is inviting students to apply for the WEINERT Foundation Bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. Bursaries are available for undergraduate and postgraduate studies at WITS, SU, NMU, and UP in the following fields:
- Materials Science
- Mechatronic Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Physics (specializing in photonics is preferred)
More About the WEINERT Bursary Programme – Selection
Shortlisted candidates will be announced on 23 December 2024. The first round of interviews will be held between 6 and 10 January 2025, and the final round of interviews will be between 13 and 17 January 2025. Successful candidates will be announced between 20 and 31 January 2025.
Eligibility Requirements for the WEINERT Bursary
To apply, you need to meet these criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Be studying or planning to study towards a qualification in one of the specified fields
- Be studying or planning to study at one of these institutions: University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), Stellenbosch University (SU), Nelson Mandela University (NMU), or University of Pretoria (UP)
- For an undergraduate bursary: be under 21 years old in the year of application
- For a Masters bursary: be under 26 years old in the year of application
- For a PhD bursary: be under 30 years old in the year of application
- For an undergraduate bursary: have achieved at least 60% in Pure Mathematics and a minimum overall average of 70% in preliminary Matric results (excluding Life Orientation)
- For a Masters bursary: have completed a BSc Honours in a related field with a minimum weighted average of 65%
- For a PhD bursary: have completed a Research Master’s degree in a related field, and an academic supervisor must be identified and approached before application
