The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) was established by the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, Act 16 of 2002, and is an agency of the South African government. RSR’s main responsibility is to regulate railroad safety for all railway operators across the country and neighboring states whose rail operations enter South Africa.
RSR’s top priority is to ensure the safety of passengers, communities, and all stakeholders at all times. The RSR is headquartered in Bruma, Johannesburg, and also has an office in Cape Town CBD.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to attend an interview. If you do not receive any feedback, please consider your application unsuccessful. Selected candidates will be required to sign a Bursary Agreement.
Eligibility Requirements for the RSR Bursary
To apply, you must meet these criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be currently in Matric (in 2024) or have completed Matric
- Be between 15 and 35 years old
- Be studying or planning to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the fields listed above
- Be studying or accepted/registered at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (including TVET Colleges, Universities of Technology, and Private and Public Universities)
- Achieve a minimum overall average of 65% in Grade 11 final or Matric mid-term results if entering 1st year in 2025
- Achieve a minimum overall average of 65% in the current year of study if already studying
- NOT be receiving any other financial sponsorship or bursary from another organization or institution
