The FMR Bursary Trust Awards include the following rounds.
The application is a video audition. A final round in the Baxter Concert Hall will take place in July 2024. The competition includes four categories: Classical Voice (vocal), Classical Instrumental (instrumental), Jazz Vocal/ Instrumental, and African Music.

The Preliminary Round performance consists of unlisted YouTube videos that must be pre-recorded and presented to the adjudication. You must include the link in your application. The final round will select up to three applicants from each category.

The Final Rounds will take place in the Baxter Concert Hall on July 20, 2024 (23rd July, 18:30, for Classical Music and 26th July, 18:30 Jazz/African). Fine Music Radio will broadcast the event and each competitor will receive a CD of the broadcast to use for personal non-commercial purposes. Final round competitors are required to provide FMR all details, including the names of the ensemble and accompanists by 10 July 2024.
By applying to this bursary, applicants agree to allow the FMR Bursary Trust to record and use performances at their discretion.

The Adjudication will be the stage where the adjudication committee makes a decision about the candidates. The panel’s decisions are final, and there will be no appeal. The feedback on the decisions is only revealed after the final competition round. The performance scores for the preliminary and final rounds are not combined.
The application will be judged on the basis of general presentation and a balanced program compilation. The instrumentation of applicants in the Jazz or African categories can also be considered.
The ensemble’s leadership is also based on the arrangement of the pieces.

Repertoire applicants are required to produce a program of maximum 15 minutes, with at least two pieces in contrasting styles. In the Classical Vocal Category, at least one operatic aria and an art song must be performed. African Music must demonstrate proficiency on two or more instruments. One of these can be the voice.
The final round should be a repeat of the preliminary round, but with changes.
If submitted by 10 July 2024, a repertoire is allowed. The backline ensemble cannot exceed four people.
