Eastern Cape is the second-largest province in South Africa. It offers a variety of attractions, from snow skiing to sunny beaches. The province is more than 170 000 km2 in size, with six district municipalities and two metropolitan municipalities. Premier Oscar Mabuyane is the leader of the province. He works at the provincial government offices in Bhisho. Eastern Cape is proud of its rich heritage and culture, rooted in Xhosa traditions.
MerSETA is a SETA, one of 21 in the country. Each represents a different sector within the economy. MerSETA is a youth-focused SETA that was established to promote skills development in the youth, according to the Skills Development Act. It focuses on Engineering, Manufacturing, and related services.
ABOUT THE ECOTP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The Eastern Cape Office of the Premier in partnership with MerSETA invites students to apply for the bursary program for the academic year 2024.
Students from the Eastern Cape who are enrolled in studies relevant to MerSETA’s sectoral priority skills can apply for this programme.
The bursary will cover the following areas:
- Actuarial Science
- Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering)
- Financial Services
- Human Resources Management
- Information and Communication Technology
- Manufacturers
- Marketing/ Advertising
- Polymer Technology
- Production and Operations Management
- Supply Chain/ Logistics

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS FOR THE ECOTP BUSHARY
Before applying, applicants must meet the minimum requirements (please be aware that if you do not meet all of the requirements your application will not be considered).
- You must be a South African Citizen
- The Eastern Cape Province is required as your residence
- You must be aged between 18 and 35.
- You must be pursuing a degree or diploma in one of the listed fields.
- You must be enrolled at an accredited and recognised University or University of Technology (UTSA) in South Africa.
- Unemployed?
- You must be willing and able to work in the relevant service sector
- Other forms of government funding are not allowed
- Students with a previous disadvantaged background will be given preference

- ID Document (certified copy).
- Matriculation certificate/equivalent (certified copy).
- The latest academic record
- Proof of Registration at a South African University/ University of Technology
- Other financial aid received towards study
