The Mandela Institute for Development Studies is a pan-African institute whose mission is to develop policies that help African institutions. They strive to achieve immediate, medium-term and long-term development goals in a comprehensive manner.

MINDS Scholarship Programme For Leadership Development 2024
MINDS offers an opportunity to African students who wish to study Honors Level or Master degrees in a foreign country. The scholarship is designed to support students who have leadership potential, and will improve relations between African nations.
Scholarships are available to individuals with a strong academic record, leadership ability and a desire to study in another African country.
The following benefits are offered by the scholarship:
- The cost of tuition.
- Accommodation and food.
- One return ticket is included in the price.
- A fixed monthly allowance is paid in the form a stipend.
Note: The stipend is calculated for each student individually and is only disclosed to those who are eligible.
Eligibility criteria
Before applying for a scholarship, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements. The application will not be accepted if there are any exceptions.
- Candidate must be either a citizen of or resident in an African country.
- The candidate must be formally accepted by MINDS from at least one institution. The Institute cannot be located in the candidate’s own country.
- The candidate must present a letter of formal acceptance from one or more institutions that MINDS has selected for the postgraduate study in the upcoming calendar year.
- The candidate must score at least 70% on each subject during the last two years of their studies.
- As per the requirements, the candidate must submit all the information necessary to demonstrate their leadership skills.
- Candidate must complete the application and submit it with all required documents.

How to Apply
Online submission is required. Candidates must first register to access the application form.

Candidates can submit their application as soon as MINDS receives the formula approval from their preferred university.
Documents required
The application will not be accepted if you do not upload all the required documents.
- The certified copy of the data sheet of the passport.
- Official copies of transcripts of records and academic transcripts for the last two years of studies.
- The official letter of acceptance from the university must be certified and include:
- Address the candidate.
- Mention the course that the candidate has been accepted into.
- Mention the date of commencement of your study.
- Mention the length of your study.
- Certified copy of the student visa or permit OR application proof for either.
- The maximum length of a well-designed Curriculum Vitae is four pages, one-sided.
- Two letters of reference describing the candidate’s leadership potential and their integrity. The letter should also discuss the candidate’s commitment to bringing African development.
